India–China Relations Normalising

Constructive Talks Held at BRICS Security Meeting in New Delhi

New Delhi, June 23: India has said its relationship with China is gradually returning to normal after high-level talks between senior officials from both countries during a BRICS security meeting in New Delhi.

India’s National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting hosted by India. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions were “constructive and forward-looking,” with both sides acknowledging progress toward the gradual normalisation of bilateral ties.

The meeting comes as India and China continue efforts to improve relations following years of tensions that began after the 2020 border clash along the Himalayan frontier. Recent diplomatic engagements and confidence-building measures have contributed to a thaw in relations between the two Asian neighbours.

During the talks, both leaders reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation while managing sensitive issues. China also stressed the importance of respecting each other’s core interests and maintaining stable communication channels.

India, which currently chairs the BRICS grouping, is hosting the two-day security advisers’ meeting in New Delhi ahead of broader BRICS engagements later this year. The discussions are seen as part of ongoing efforts to promote regional stability and enhance cooperation among member nations.
